About our gas line repair and installation

A gas line problem often starts with a rotten-egg smell, a hissing sound near an appliance, or a dead pilot light that won't stay lit. You might also notice dying grass along the pipe’s path or a higher gas bill with no obvious cause. When you call us, you’re dealing with a potential safety risk that needs immediate attention. We treat every gas leak as urgent because a small leak can turn into a bigger hazard quickly. Our first step is always to shut off the gas at the meter if needed and ventilate the area before we begin any inspection.

We start by locating the leak with an electronic gas sniffer and confirm it with a soap-and-water bubble test on every joint. For repairs, we cut out the damaged section of black iron or corrugated stainless steel tubing (CSST) and install new fittings with pipe dope or Teflon tape rated for gas. For new runs, we map the route to avoid electrical lines and water pipes, then secure the pipe with hangers every four feet. After all connections are made, we pressure-test the system at 15 psi for at least 15 minutes to verify zero drop.

The cost and time of a gas line job depend on how far the gas meter is from the appliance, whether the pipe runs through an attic or crawlspace, and the type of pipe material needed—black iron is heavier and slower to thread than flexible CSST. Existing walls or concrete slabs that need cutting add labor, while a simple basement run with open access is faster. Soil conditions matter if the line must be buried outdoors; rocky ground slows trenching. The number of appliances being connected also changes the scope—a single stove hookup is simpler than running a manifold for multiple fixtures.

On the day of the job, we lay down drop cloths and plastic sheeting to protect floors and furniture. We shut off the gas at the meter before starting work and ask you to keep pets and kids away from the work area. After the repair or installation, we pressure-test the system, then relight all pilot lights on your appliances and check each burner for proper flame color. We clean up all debris, pipe scraps, and dust, and we leave the job area as clean as we found it. You don’t need to do anything afterward except call us if you ever smell gas again.

Soap-and-water test

We brush a soapy solution on every gas fitting and joint; bubbles form instantly at any leak, even tiny pinholes that electronic detectors might miss.

Corrugated stainless steel tubing

CSST is a flexible gas pipe that reduces the number of fittings needed, lowering potential leak points and speeding installation in tight spaces.

How the job runs

Our 4-step gas line repair and installation process

01

Shutoff and inspection

We close the gas at the meter, then use an electronic sniffer and soap test to pinpoint the exact location and severity of any leak.

02

Pipe preparation

We measure and cut black iron pipe or CSST, deburr the edges, and apply pipe dope or gas-rated Teflon tape to every threaded connection.

03

Installation or repair

We replace damaged sections or run new pipe from the meter to the appliance, securing the line with hangers and avoiding obstructions.

04

Pressure test and relight

We pressurize the system and monitor the gauge for 15 minutes, then relight all pilot lights and check each appliance for proper operation.
