The work

About our water heater installation

A water heater that stops producing hot water or starts leaking is a major disruption. You notice lukewarm showers, rust-colored water, or puddles near the base. This is the moment you call for a replacement. We handle both emergency failures and planned upgrades, matching the new system to your household size and daily usage patterns.

We begin by draining and disconnecting the old unit, then disconnect gas or electrical lines. For a tank model, we set the new heater on a level pan, connect the supply lines, install a temperature and pressure relief valve, and seal all joints with pipe dope. For tankless, we mount the unit, run new venting if needed, and flush the system to remove debris.

Job complexity varies with the heater type and location. A tankless unit in a tight closet requires more labor for venting and gas line sizing. An old tank in a basement with corroded connections adds time for cutting and threading. Accessibility, the condition of existing gas or electrical lines, and the need for a new expansion tank all affect the total work.

On installation day, we lay down drop cloths and protect floors in the work path. We ask that you clear the area around the heater and keep pets away. After the job, we remove the old unit, sweep up debris, and test the system for leaks and proper temperature. We also show you the shut-off valve and basic maintenance steps.

Tank vs. Tankless

Tank heaters store 40–80 gallons and reheat continuously. Tankless units heat water on demand, saving space and energy but requiring larger gas lines or upgraded electrical circuits.

Sediment and Scale

Mineral buildup inside a tank reduces efficiency and causes premature failure. Flushing the tank annually removes sediment, but a heavily scaled unit often needs replacement.

How the job runs

Our 4-step water heater installation process

01

Site Assessment

We inspect the existing connections, venting, gas line size, and electrical capacity. We also measure the space to confirm the new unit fits and meets clearance requirements.

02

Old Unit Removal

We shut off power or gas, drain the tank, disconnect all lines, and haul the old heater away. We also clean up any residual water or debris from the area.

03

New Unit Installation

We set the new heater, connect water lines with flexible supply hoses, install the T&P valve, and seal gas or electrical connections. For tankless, we install venting and a condensate drain.

04

System Testing

We pressurize the system, check for leaks, and verify the thermostat settings. We light the pilot or flip the breaker, then run hot water to confirm steady temperature and flow.

The difference

Why Brayden's Plumbing for water heater installation

  • Proper Sizing

An undersized heater runs out of hot water fast; an oversized one wastes energy. We calculate the first-hour rating and flow rate your household needs so the system matches your daily use.

  • Gas Line Safety

A gas water heater needs the correct pipe diameter and a secure shut-off valve. We test every joint with a pressure gauge and soap solution to ensure no leaks exist before lighting the unit.

  • Code Compliance

Local codes require specific clearances, seismic straps, and expansion tanks. We check your county building department’s rules and install the heater to meet those standards, avoiding future issues.
